2 Baruque 19

1E Ele respondeu e me disse: 'Portanto, naquele tempo, ele estabeleceu para eles um convênio e disse: "Eis que coloquei diante de vocês a vida e a morte." E ele chamou o céu e a terra para testemunhar contra eles.

1And He answered and said unto me: 'Wherefore at that time he appointed for them a covenant and said: "Behold I have placed before you life and death," And he called heaven and earth to witness against them.

2Pois ele sabia que seu tempo era curto, mas que o céu e a terra duram para sempre.

2For he knew that his time was but short, but that heaven and earth endure always.

3Pois depois de sua morte estes pecaram e transgrediram (a aliança), embora soubessem que tinham a lei que os reprovava, e a luz na qual nada poderia errar, também as esferas que testificam, e Eu.

3For after his death these sinned and transgressed (the covenant), though they knew that they had the law reproving (them), and the light in which nothing could err, also the spheres which testify, and Me.

4Ora, quanto a tudo o que existe, sou eu quem julgo, mas tu não aconselhas a tua alma a respeito destas coisas, nem te aflijas por causa das que já existiram.

4Now regarding everything that is it is I that judge, but do not thou take counsel in thy soul regarding these things, nor afflict thyself because of those which have been.

5Por enquanto o que se busca é a consumação do tempo, seja dos negócios, seja da prosperidade, ou da vergonha, e não o seu início.

5For now it is the consummation of time that is sought, whether of business, or of prosperity, or of shame, and not the beginning thereof.

6Porque se um homem prospera no início e é vergonhosamente suplicado na velhice, ele se esquece de toda a prosperidade que teve.

6Because if a man be prospered in his beginnings and shamefully entreated in his old age, he forgets all the prosperity that he had.

7E novamente, se um homem é vergonhosamente suplicado no início e no final prospera, ele não se lembra novamente de seu mau tratamento.

7And again, if a man is shamefully entreated in his beginnings, and at his end is prospered, he remembereth not again his evil entreatment.

8E novamente ouçam: embora cada um tenha prosperado todo esse tempo - todo o tempo desde o dia em que a morte foi decretada contra aqueles que transgridem - e no final foi destruído, em vão tudo teria sido.'

8And again hearken: though each one were prospered all that time-- all the time from the day on which death was decreed against those who transgress-- and in his end was destroyed, in vain would have been everything.'
