2 Baruque 14

1E eu respondi e disse: 'Eis! Tu me mostraste o método dos tempos e o que acontecerá após essas coisas e me disseste que a retribuição de que falaste por Ti será vantajosa para as nações.

1And I answered and said: 'Lo! Thou hast shown me the method of the times, and that which shall be alter these things and Thou hast said unto me, that the retribution, which has been spoken of by Thee, will be of advantage to the nations.

2E agora eu sei que aqueles que pecaram são muitos, e eles viveram em prosperidade, e partiram do mundo, mas que poucas nações restarão naqueles tempos, a quem serão ditas aquelas palavras que Tu disseste.

2And now I know that those who have sinned are many, and they have lived in prosperity, and departed from the world, but that few nations will be left in those times, to whom those words shall be said which Thou didst say.

3Pois que vantagem há nisso, ou que (mal) pior do que aquilo que vimos nos acontecer, devemos esperar ver?

3For what advantage is there in this, or what (evil), worse than what we have seen befall us, are we to expect to see?

4Mas novamente falarei em Tua presença:

4But again I will speak in Thy presence:

5O que aproveitaram aqueles que tiveram conhecimento antes de Ti, e não andaram na vaidade como o resto das nações, e não disseram aos mortos: "Dá-nos vida", mas sempre Te temeram, e não abandonaram Teus caminhos?

5What have they profited who had knowledge before Thee, and have not walked in vanity as the rest of the nations, and have not said to the dead: "Give us life," but always feared Thee, and have not left Thy ways?

6E eis! eles foram levados, nem por causa deles tiveste misericórdia de Sião.

6And lo! they have been carried off, nor on their account hast Thou had mercy on Zion.

7E se outros fizeram o mal, foi devido a Sião, que por causa das obras daqueles que praticaram boas obras ela deveria ser perdoada, e não deveria ser oprimida por causa das obras daqueles que praticaram a injustiça.

7And if others did evil, it was due to Zion, that on account of the works of those who wrought good works she should be forgiven, and should not be overwhelmed on account of the works of those who wrought unrighteousness.

8Mas quem, ó Senhor, meu Senhor, compreenderá o Teu julgamento, Ou quem buscará a profundidade do Teu caminho? ou quem pensará na gravidade do Teu caminho?

8But who, O Lord, my Lord, will comprehend Thy judgement, Or who will search out the profoundness of Thy way? or who will think out the gravity of Thy way?

9Ou quem será capaz de conceber Teu conselho incompreensível? ou quem daqueles que nasceram já encontrou O começo ou o fim da Tua sabedoria?

9Or who will be able to think out Thy incomprehensible counsel? or who of those that are born has ever found The beginning or end of Thy wisdom?

10Pois todos nós fomos feitos como um sopro.

10For we have all been made like a breath.

11Pois assim como o fôlego sobe do coração e não retorna é extinto, o mesmo acontece com a natureza dos homens, que não partem de acordo com sua própria vontade e não sabem o que lhes acontecerá no final.

11For as the breath ascends from the heart, and returning not is extinguished, so it is with the nature of men, who depart not according to their own will, and know not what will befall them in the end.

12Pois os justos esperam justamente o fim, e sem medo partem desta habitação, porque têm contigo um estoque de obras preservadas em tesouros.

12For the righteous justly hope for the end, and without fear depart from this habitation, because they have with Thee a store of works preserved in treasuries.

13Por esta razão também estes deixam este mundo sem medo, e confiantes com alegria esperam receber o mundo que Tu lhes prometeste.

13On this account also these without fear leave this world, and trusting with joy they hope to receive the world which Thou hast promised them.

14Mas há aflição para nós, que agora também somos vergonhosamente suplicados, e naquele momento esperamos (apenas) o mal.

14But unto us there is woe, who also are now shamefully entreated, and at that time look forward (only) to evils.

15Mas Tu sabes com precisão o que fizeste em favor de Teus servos; pois não somos capazes de compreender por meio de nenhuma coisa boa que Tu és nosso Criador.

15But Thou knowest accurately what Thou hast made on behalf of Thy servants; for we are not able to understand by means of any good thing that Thou art our Creator.

16Mas novamente falarei em Tua presença, ó Senhor, meu Senhor.

16But again I will speak in Thy presence, O LORD, my Lord.

17Quando antigamente não havia mundo com seus habitantes, Tu planejaste e falaste com uma palavra, e imediatamente as obras da criação ficaram diante de Ti.

17When of old there was no world with its inhabitants, Thou didst devise and speak with a word, and forthwith the works of creation stood before Thee.

18E Tu disseste que farias para o Teu mundo o homem como administrador de Tuas obras, para que se soubesse que ele não foi feito de forma alguma por causa do mundo, mas o mundo por causa dele.

18And Thou didst say that Thou wouldst make for Thy world man as the administrator of Thy works, that it might be known that he was by no means made on account of the world, but the world on account of him.

19E agora vejo que quanto ao mundo que foi feito por nossa causa, eis! ele permanece, mas nós, por causa de quem foi feito, partimos.'

19And now I see that as for the world which was made on account of us, lo! it abides, but we, on account of whom it was made, depart.'
