1 Samuel 11

1Então subiu Naás, amonita, e sitiou a Jabes-Gileade; e disseram todos os homens de Jabes a Naás: Faze aliança conosco, e te serviremos.

1Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabeshgilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.

2Porém Naás, amonita, lhes disse: Com esta condição farei aliança convosco: que a todos vos arranque o olho direito, e assim ponha esta afronta sobre todo o Israel.

2And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, On this {condition} will I make {a covenant} with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes, and lay it {for} a reproach upon all Israel.

3Então os anciãos de Jabes lhe disseram: Deixa-nos por sete dias, para que enviemos mensageiros por todos os termos de Israel, e, não havendo ninguém que nos livre, então viremos a ti.

3And the elders of Jabesh said unto him, Give us seven days' respite, that we may send messengers unto all the coasts of Israel: and then, if {there be} no man to save us, we will come out to thee. {Give...: Heb. Forbear us}

4E, vindo os mensageiros a Gibeá de Saul, falaram estas palavras aos ouvidos do povo. Então todo o povo levantou a sua voz, e chorou.

4Then came the messengers to Gibeah of Saul, and told the tidings in the ears of the people: and all the people lifted up their voices, and wept.

5E eis que Saul vinha do campo, atrás dos bois; e disse Saul: Que tem o povo, que chora? E contaram-lhe as palavras dos homens de Jabes.

5And, behold, Saul came after the herd out of the field; and Saul said, What {aileth} the people that they weep? And they told him the tidings of the men of Jabesh.

6Então o Espírito de Deus se apoderou de Saul, ouvindo estas palavras; e acendeu-se em grande maneira a sua ira.

6And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly.

7E tomou uma junta de bois, e cortou-os em pedaços, e os enviou a todos os termos de Israel pelas mãos dos mensageiros, dizendo: Qualquer que não seguir a Saul e a Samuel, assim se fará aos seus bois. Então caiu o temor do Senhor sobre o povo, e saíram como um só homem.

7And he took a yoke of oxen, and hewed them in pieces, and sent {them} throughout all the coasts of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whosoever cometh not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent. {with...: Heb. as one man}

8E contou-os em Bezeque; e houve dos filhos de Israel trezentos mil, e dos homens de Judá trinta mil.

8And when he numbered them in Bezek, the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.

9Então disseram aos mensageiros que vieram: Assim direis aos homens de Jabes-Gileade: Amanhã, em aquecendo o sol, vos virá livramento. Vindo, pois, os mensageiros, e anunciando-o aos homens de Jabes, se alegraram.

9And they said unto the messengers that came, Thus shall ye say unto the men of Jabeshgilead, To morrow, by {that time} the sun be hot, ye shall have help. And the messengers came and shewed {it} to the men of Jabesh; and they were glad. {help: or, deliverance}

10E os homens de Jabes disseram aos amonitas: Amanhã sairemos a vós; então nos fareis conforme a tudo o que parecer bem aos vossos olhos.

10Therefore the men of Jabesh said, To morrow we will come out unto you, and ye shall do with us all that seemeth good unto you.

11E sucedeu que ao outro dia Saul pôs o povo em três companhias, e vieram ao meio do arraial pela vigília da manhã, e feriram aos amonitas até que o dia aqueceu; e sucedeu que os restantes se espalharam, de modo que não ficaram dois deles juntos.

11And it was {so} on the morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch, and slew the Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they which remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.

12Então disse o povo a Samuel: Quem é aquele que dizia que Saul não reinaria sobre nós? Dai-nos aqueles homens, e os mataremos.

12And the people said unto Samuel, Who {is} he that said, Shall Saul reign over us? bring the men, that we may put them to death.

13Porém Saul disse: Hoje não morrerá nenhum, pois hoje tem feito o Senhor um livramento em Israel.

13And Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death this day: for to day the LORD hath wrought salvation in Israel.

14E disse Samuel ao povo: Vinde, vamos nós a Gilgal, e renovemos ali o reino.

14Then said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.

15E todo o povo partiu para Gilgal, onde proclamaram a Saul por rei perante o Senhor, e ofereceram ali ofertas pacíficas perante o Senhor; e Saul se alegrou muito ali com todos os homens de Israel.

15And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the LORD in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the LORD; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.
