1 Reis 18

1E sucedeu que, depois de muitos dias, a palavra do SENHOR veio a Elias, no terceiro ano, dizendo: Vai, apresenta-te a Acabe; porque darei chuva sobre a terra.

1And it came to pass {after} many days, that the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.

2E foi Elias apresentar-se a Acabe; e a fome era extrema em Samaria.

2And Elijah went to shew himself unto Ahab. And {there was} a sore famine in Samaria.

3E Acabe chamou a Obadias, o mordomo; e Obadias temia muito ao Senhor,

3And Ahab called Obadiah, which {was} the governor of {his} house. (Now Obadiah feared the LORD greatly: {Obadiah: Heb. Obadiahu} {the governor...: Heb. over his house}

4Porque sucedeu que, destruindo Jezabel os profetas do Senhor, Obadias tomou cem profetas, e de cinqüenta em cinqüenta os escondeu numa cova, e os sustentou com pão e água.

4For it was {so}, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.) {Jezebel: Heb. Izebel}

5E disse Acabe a Obadias: Vai pela terra a todas as fontes de água, e a todos os rios; pode ser que achemos erva, para que em vida conservemos os cavalos e mulas, e não percamos todos os animais.

5And Ahab said unto Obadiah, Go into the land, unto all fountains of water, and unto all brooks: peradventure we may find grass to save the horses and mules alive, that we lose not all the beasts. {that...: Heb. that we cut not off ourselves from the beasts}

6E repartiram entre si a terra, para a percorrerem: Acabe foi à parte por um caminho, e Obadias também foi sozinho por outro caminho.

6So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.

7Estando, pois, Obadias já em caminho, eis que Elias o encontrou; e Obadias, reconhecendo-o, prostrou-se sobre o seu rosto, e disse: És tu o meu senhor Elias?

7And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Elijah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, {Art} thou that my lord Elijah?

8E disse-lhe ele: Eu sou; vai, e dize a teu senhor: Eis que Elias está aqui.

8And he answered him, I {am}: go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah {is here}.

9Porém ele disse: Em que pequei, para que entregues a teu servo na mão de Acabe, para que me mate?

9And he said, What have I sinned, that thou wouldest deliver thy servant into the hand of Ahab, to slay me?

10Vive o SENHOR teu Deus, que não houve nação nem reino aonde o meu senhor não mandasse em busca de ti; e dizendo eles: Aqui não está, então fazia jurar os reinos e nações, que não te haviam achado.

10{As} the LORD thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when they said, {He is} not {there}; he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found thee not.

11E agora dizes tu: Vai, dize a teu senhor: Eis que aqui está Elias.

11And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah {is here}.

12E poderia ser que, apartando-me eu de ti, o Espírito do Senhor te tomasse, não sei para onde, e, vindo eu a dar as novas a Acabe, e não te achando ele, me mataria; porém eu, teu servo, temo ao Senhor desde a minha mocidade.

12And it shall come to pass, {as soon as} I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of the LORD shall carry thee whither I know not; and {so} when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he shall slay me: but I thy servant fear the LORD from my youth.

13Porventura não disseram a meu senhor o que fiz, quando Jezabel matava os profetas do SENHOR? Como escondi a cem homens dos profetas do SENHOR, de cinqüenta em cinqüenta, numa cova, e os sustentei com pão e água?

13Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of the LORD, how I hid an hundred men of the LORD'S prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?

14E agora dizes tu: Vai, dize a teu senhor: Eis que Elias está aqui; ele me mataria.

14And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah {is here}: and he shall slay me.

15E disse Elias: Vive o Senhor dos Exércitos, perante cuja face estou, que deveras hoje me apresentarei a ele.

15And Elijah said, {As} the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will surely shew myself unto him to day.

16Então foi Obadias encontrar-se com Acabe, e lho anunciou; e foi Acabe encontrar-se com Elias.

16So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him: and Ahab went to meet Elijah.

17E sucedeu que, vendo Acabe a Elias, disse-lhe: És tu o perturbador de Israel?

17And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, {Art} thou he that troubleth Israel?

18Então disse ele: Eu não tenho perturbado a Israel, mas tu e a casa de teu pai, porque deixastes os mandamentos do Senhor, e seguistes a Baalim.

18And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast followed Baalim.

19Agora, pois, manda reunir-se a mim todo o Israel no monte Carmelo; como também os quatrocentos e cinqüenta profetas de Baal, e os quatrocentos profetas de Aserá, que comem da mesa de Jezabel.

19Now therefore send, {and} gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel's table.

20Então Acabe convocou todos os filhos de Israel; e reuniu os profetas no monte Carmelo.

20So Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.

21Então Elias se chegou a todo o povo, e disse: Até quando coxeareis entre dois pensamentos? Se o Senhor é Deus, segui-o, e se Baal, segui-o. Porém o povo nada lhe respondeu.

21And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD {be} God, follow him: but if Baal, {then} follow him. And the people answered him not a word. {opinions: or, thoughts}

22Então disse Elias ao povo: Só eu fiquei por profeta do Senhor, e os profetas de Baal são quatrocentos e cinqüenta homens.

22Then said Elijah unto the people, I, {even} I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal's prophets {are} four hundred and fifty men.

23Dêem-se-nos, pois, dois bezerros, e eles escolham para si um dos bezerros, e o dividam em pedaços, e o ponham sobre a lenha, porém não lhe coloquem fogo, e eu prepararei o outro bezerro, e o porei sobre a lenha, e não lhe colocarei fogo.

23Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay {it} on wood, and put no fire {under}: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay {it} on wood, and put no fire {under}:

24Então invocai o nome do vosso deus, e eu invocarei o nome do Senhor; e há de ser que o deus que responder por meio de fogo esse será Deus. E todo o povo respondeu, dizendo: É boa esta palavra.

24And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken. {It is...: Heb. The word is good}

25E disse Elias aos profetas de Baal: Escolhei para vós um dos bezerros, e preparai-o primeiro, porque sois muitos, e invocai o nome do vosso deus, e não lhe ponhais fogo.

25And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress {it} first; for ye {are} many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire {under}.

26E tomaram o bezerro que lhes dera, e o prepararam; e invocaram o nome de Baal, desde a manhã até ao meio-dia, dizendo: Ah! Baal, responde-nos! Porém nem havia voz, nem quem respondesse; e saltavam sobre o altar que tinham feito.

26And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed {it}, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But {there was} no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made. {hear: or, answer} {answered: or, heard} {leaped...: or, leaped up and down at the altar}

27E sucedeu que ao meio-dia Elias zombava deles e dizia: Clamai em altas vozes, porque ele é um deus; pode ser que esteja falando, ou que tenha alguma coisa que fazer, ou que intente alguma viagem; talvez esteja dormindo, e despertará.

27And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he {is} a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, {or} peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked. {aloud: Heb. with a great voice} {he is talking: or, he meditateth} {is pursuing: Heb. hath a pursuit}

28E eles clamavam em altas vozes, e se retalhavam com facas e com lancetas, conforme ao seu costume, até derramarem sangue sobre si.

28And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them. {the blood...: Heb. poured out blood upon them}

29E sucedeu que, passado o meio-dia, profetizaram eles, até a hora de se oferecer o sacrifício da tarde; porém não houve voz, nem resposta, nem atenção alguma.

29And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the {time} of the offering of the {evening} sacrifice, that {there was} neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded. {offering: Heb. ascending} {that regarded: Heb. attention}

30Então Elias disse a todo o povo: Chegai-vos a mim. E todo o povo se chegou a ele; e restaurou o altar do Senhor, que estava quebrado.

30And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD {that was} broken down.

31E Elias tomou doze pedras, conforme ao número das tribos dos filhos de Jacó, ao qual veio a palavra do Senhor, dizendo: Israel será o teu nome.

31And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be thy name:

32E com aquelas pedras edificou o altar em nome do Senhor; depois fez um rego em redor do altar, segundo a largura de duas medidas de semente.

32And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.

33Então armou a lenha, e dividiu o bezerro em pedaços, e o pôs sobre a lenha.

33And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid {him} on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour {it} on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood.

34E disse: Enchei de água quatro cântaros, e derramai-a sobre o holocausto e sobre a lenha. E disse: Fazei-o segunda vez; e o fizeram segunda vez. Disse ainda: Fazei-o terceira vez; e o fizeram terceira vez;

34And he said, Do {it} the second time. And they did {it} the second time. And he said, Do {it} the third time. And they did {it} the third time.

35De maneira que a água corria ao redor do altar; e até o rego ele encheu de água.

35And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water. {ran: Heb. went}

36Sucedeu que, no momento de ser oferecido o sacrifício da tarde, o profeta Elias se aproximou, e disse: Ó Senhor Deus de Abraão, de Isaque e de Israel, manifeste-se hoje que tu és Deus em Israel, e que eu sou teu servo, e que conforme à tua palavra fiz todas estas coisas.

36And it came to pass at {the time of} the offering of the {evening} sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou {art} God in Israel, and {that} I {am} thy servant, and {that} I have done all these things at thy word.

37Responde-me, Senhor, responde-me, para que este povo conheça que tu és o Senhor Deus, e que tu fizeste voltar o seu coração.

37Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou {art} the LORD God, and {that} thou hast turned their heart back again.

38Então caiu fogo do Senhor, e consumiu o holocausto, e a lenha, e as pedras, e o pó, e ainda lambeu a água que estava no rego.

38Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that {was} in the trench.

39O que vendo todo o povo, caíram sobre os seus rostos, e disseram: Só o Senhor é Deus! Só o Senhor é Deus!

39And when all the people saw {it}, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he {is} the God; the LORD, he {is} the God.

40E Elias lhes disse: Lançai mão dos profetas de Baal, que nenhum deles escape. E lançaram mão deles; e Elias os fez descer ao ribeiro de Quisom, e ali os matou.

40And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there. {Take: or, Apprehend}

41Então disse Elias a Acabe: Sobe, come e bebe, porque há ruído de uma abundante chuva.

41And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for {there is} a sound of abundance of rain. {a sound...: or, a sound of a noise of rain}

42E Acabe subiu a comer e a beber; mas Elias subiu ao cume do Carmelo, e se inclinou por terra, e pôs o seu rosto entre os seus joelhos.

42So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,

43E disse ao seu servo: Sobe agora, e olha para o lado do mar. E subiu, e olhou, e disse: Não há nada. Então disse ele: Volta lá sete vezes.

43And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, {There is} nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.

44E sucedeu que, à sétima vez, disse: Eis aqui uma pequena nuvem, como a mão de um homem, subindo do mar. Então disse ele: Sobe, e dize a Acabe: Aparelha o teu carro, e desce, para que a chuva não te impeça.

44And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare {thy chariot}, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not. {Prepare: Heb. Tie, or, Bind}

45E sucedeu que, entretanto, os céus se enegreceram com nuvens e vento, e veio uma grande chuva; e Acabe subiu ao carro, e foi para Jizreel.

45And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

46E a mão do Senhor estava sobre Elias, o qual cingiu os lombos, e veio correndo perante Acabe, até à entrada de Jizreel.

46And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel. {to the...: Heb. till thou come to Jezreel}
