1 Coríntios 14

1Segui o amor, e procurai com zelo os dons espirituais, mas principalmente o de profetizar.

1Follow after charity, and desire spiritual {gifts}, but rather that ye may prophesy.

2Porque o que fala em língua desconhecida não fala aos homens, senão a Deus; porque ninguém o entende, e em espírito fala mistérios.

2For he that speaketh in an {unknown} tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth {him}; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. {understandeth: Gr. heareth}

3Mas o que profetiza fala aos homens, para edificação, exortação e consolação.

3But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men {to} edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

4O que fala em língua desconhecida edifica-se a si mesmo, mas o que profetiza edifica a igreja.

4He that speaketh in an {unknown} tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

5E eu quero que todos vós faleis em línguas, mas muito mais que profetizeis; porque o que profetiza é maior do que o que fala em línguas, a não ser que também interprete para que a igreja receba edificação.

5I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater {is} he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

6E agora, irmãos, se eu for ter convosco falando em línguas, que vos aproveitaria, se não vos falasse ou por meio da revelação, ou da ciência, ou da profecia, ou da doutrina?

6Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?

7Da mesma sorte, se as coisas inanimadas, que fazem som, seja flauta, seja cítara, não formarem sons distintos, como se conhecerá o que se toca com a flauta ou com a cítara?

7And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped? {sounds: or, tunes}

8Porque, se a trombeta der sonido incerto, quem se preparará para a batalha?

8For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?

9Assim também vós, se com a língua não pronunciardes palavras bem inteligíveis, como se entenderá o que se diz? porque estareis como que falando ao ar.

9So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air. {easy...: Gr. significant}

10Há, por exemplo, tanta espécie de vozes no mundo, e nenhuma delas é sem significação.

10There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them {is} without signification.

11Mas, se eu ignorar o sentido da voz, serei bárbaro para aquele a quem falo, e o que fala será bárbaro para mim.

11Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh {shall be} a barbarian unto me.

12Assim também vós, como desejais dons espirituais, procurai abundar neles, para edificação da igreja.

12Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual {gifts}, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church. {of spiritual gifts: Gr. of spirits}

13Por isso, o que fala em língua desconhecida, ore para que a possa interpretar.

13Wherefore let him that speaketh in an {unknown} tongue pray that he may interpret.

14Porque, se eu orar em língua desconhecida, o meu espírito ora bem, mas o meu entendimento fica sem fruto.

14For if I pray in an {unknown} tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

15Que farei, pois? Orarei com o espírito, mas também orarei com o entendimento; cantarei com o espírito, mas também cantarei com o entendimento.

15What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

16De outra maneira, se tu bendisseres com o espírito, como dirá o que ocupa o lugar de indouto, o Amém, sobre a tua ação de graças, visto que não sabe o que dizes?

16Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?

17Porque realmente tu dás bem as graças, mas o outro não é edificado.

17For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.

18Dou graças ao meu Deus, porque falo mais línguas do que vós todos.

18I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:

19Todavia eu antes quero falar na igreja cinco palavras na minha própria inteligência, para que possa também instruir os outros, do que dez mil palavras em língua desconhecida.

19Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that {by my voice} I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an {unknown} tongue.

20Irmãos, não sejais meninos no entendimento, mas sede meninos na malícia, e adultos no entendimento.

20Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men. {men: Gr. perfect, or, of a ripe age}

21Está escrito na lei: Por gente de outras línguas, e por outros lábios, falarei a este povo; e ainda assim me não ouvirão, diz o Senhor.

21In the law it is written, With {men of} other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.

22De sorte que as línguas são um sinal, não para os fiéis, mas para os infiéis; e a profecia não é sinal para os infiéis, mas para os fiéis.

22Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying {serveth} not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

23Se, pois, toda a igreja se congregar num lugar, e todos falarem em línguas, e entrarem indoutos ou infiéis, não dirão porventura que estais loucos?

23If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in {those that are} unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?

24Mas, se todos profetizarem, e algum indouto ou infiel entrar, de todos é convencido, de todos é julgado.

24But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or {one} unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:

25E, portanto, os segredos do seu coração ficam manifestos, e assim, lançando-se sobre o seu rosto, adorará a Deus, publicando que Deus está verdadeiramente entre vós.

25And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on {his} face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.

26Que fareis pois, irmãos? Quando vos ajuntais, cada um de vós tem salmo, tem doutrina, tem revelação, tem língua, tem interpretação. Faça-se tudo para edificação.

26How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.

27E, se alguém falar em língua desconhecida, faça-se isso por dois, ou quando muito três, e por sua vez, e haja intérprete.

27If any man speak in an {unknown} tongue, {let it be} by two, or at the most {by} three, and {that} by course; and let one interpret. {two...: by two or three sentences separately}

28Mas, se não houver intérprete, esteja calado na igreja, e fale consigo mesmo, e com Deus.

28But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

29E falem dois ou três profetas, e os outros julguem.

29Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.

30Mas, se a outro, que estiver assentado, for revelada alguma coisa, cale-se o primeiro.

30If {any thing} be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.

31Porque todos podereis profetizar, uns depois dos outros; para que todos aprendam, e todos sejam consolados.

31For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.

32E os espíritos dos profetas estão sujeitos aos profetas.

32And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

33Porque Deus não é Deus de confusão, senão de paz, como em todas as igrejas dos santos.

33For God is not {the author} of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. {confusion: Gr. tumult, or, unquietness}

34As vossas mulheres estejam caladas nas igrejas; porque não lhes é permitido falar; mas estejam sujeitas, como também ordena a lei.

34Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but {they are commanded} to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

35E, se querem aprender alguma coisa, interroguem em casa a seus próprios maridos; porque é vergonhoso que as mulheres falem na igreja.

35And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

36Porventura saiu dentre vós a palavra de Deus? Ou veio ela somente para vós?

36What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?

37Se alguém cuida ser profeta, ou espiritual, reconheça que as coisas que vos escrevo são mandamentos do Senhor.

37If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.

38Mas, se alguém ignora isto, que ignore.

38But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.

39Portanto, irmãos, procurai, com zelo, profetizar, e não proibais falar línguas.

39Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

40Mas faça-se tudo decentemente e com ordem.

40Let all things be done decently and in order.
