1A estes homens de vida santa foi reunida uma grande multidão de eleitos.

1To these men of holy life was gathered a great multitude of the elect.

2Que por inveja sofreram muitos ultrajes e torturas e se tornaram exemplos excelentes entre nós.

2Who through envy suffered many outrages and tortures and became excellent examples among us.

3Por inveja, mulheres foram perseguidas, Danaides e Dirces, sofrendo punições cruéis e ímpias.

3Through envy, women were persecuted, Danaids and Dirces, suffering cruel and impious punishments.

4Por terem corrido com firmeza a carreira da fé, receberam prêmio nobre, embora fracas de corpo.

4Having run with firmness the race of faith, they received a noble prize, though weak in body.
