1Deixemos os exemplos antigos e venhamos aos atletas mais próximos de nosso próprio tempo. Tomemos os nobres exemplos de nossa própria geração.

1Let us leave the ancient examples and come to the athletes nearest to our own time. Let us take the noble examples of our own generation.

2Por ciúme e inveja as mais altas e mais justas colunas foram perseguidas e lutaram até a morte.

2Through jealousy and envy the greatest and most righteous pillars were persecuted and fought to death.

3Tomemos os bons apóstolos: Pedro, que por causa de um ciúme injusto suportou não uma ou duas, mas muitas laboriosas provas, e assim, tendo dado testemunho, foi para o glorioso lugar que era seu por direito.

3Let us take the good apostles: Peter, who because of unjust jealousy endured not one or two but many laborious trials, and thus having borne witness went to the glorious place that was his by right.

4Por inveja e conflito Paulo mostrou a recompensa da paciência.
