1 Clemente 44

1Nossos apóstolos também souberam, através de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, que haveria contenda sobre o nome do episcopado.

1Our apostles also knew, through our Lord Jesus Christ, that there would be strife over the name of the episcopate.

2Por esta razão, portanto, tendo recebido conhecimento perfeito, eles designaram os mencionados acima e depois providenciaram uma continuação.

2For this reason, therefore, having received perfect knowledge, they appointed those mentioned above and afterward provided a continuance.

3Para que, se eles morressem, outros homens aprovados sucedessem em seu ministério.

3So that, if they should die, other approved men might succeed in their ministry.

4Aqueles, portanto, que foram designados por eles, ou depois por outros homens eminentes com o consentimento de toda a igreja, e que ministraram irrepreensívelmente ao rebanho de Cristo em humildade, calma e nobreza, e durante muito tempo foram bem testemunhados por todos—esses homens consideramos serem injustamente removidos de seu ministério.

4Those, therefore, who were appointed by them, or afterward by other eminent men with the consent of the whole church, and who have ministered blamelessly to the flock of Christ in humility, calm and nobility, and for a long time have been well testified by all—these men we consider to be unjustly removed from their ministry.
