1 Clemente 16

1Porque Cristo é dos humildes de espírito, não dos que se exaltam sobre seu rebanho.

1For Christ is of the humble in spirit, not of those who exalt themselves over his flock.

2O cetro da majestade de Deus, nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, não veio com ostentação de jactância ou arrogância, embora pudesse fazê-lo.

2The scepter of the majesty of God, our Lord Jesus Christ, did not come with ostentation of boasting or arrogance, though he could have done so.

3Mas em humildade, como o Espírito Santo falou a respeito dele. Porque diz: Senhor, quem creu em nossa pregação? E a quem foi revelado o braço do Senhor?

3But in humility, as the Holy Spirit spoke concerning him. For it says: Lord, who believed our report? And to whom was the arm of the Lord revealed?

4Vedes, amados, qual é o exemplo que nos foi dado. Porque se o Senhor se humilhou assim, que faremos nós que viemos debaixo do jugo de sua graça por meio dele?

4You see, beloved, what is the example that has been given us. For if the Lord thus humbled himself, what shall we do who have come under the yoke of his grace through him?
